Meet Dr. Kelli Oglesby

austin-family-medicine-dr-kelli-oglesbyAbout: Dr. Kelli Oglesby was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She moved to Austin, Texas when she was eight years old while her mother was in law school. After a few years, they moved to El Paso, and Dr. Oglesby spent the rest of her childhood years in El Paso, Texas. Since childhood, she has always been fond of Austin, and it has always been her dream to move back to Austin and care for the community as a family doctor. Dr. Oglesby finally made this dream come true – she recently moved to Austin after graduating from University of South Carolina Family Medicine Residency Program in Columbia, South Carolina. During her training, she went through a rigorous training program that prepared her for all aspects of family medicine, including well woman care, overall wellness, nutritional evaluation, hormonal balance, and cardiovascular risk reduction. In addition to wellness, Dr. Oglesby has received extensive training in chronic conditions such as diabetes, COPD, thyroid problems, high blood pressure, weight problems, depression, anxiety, allergies, and much more. She has been trained to care for all age groups from newborn to the elderly. She constantly reads in order to stay abreast of her medical knowledge, and she aims to keep you and your family healthy.

Residency Training: Dr. Oglesby completed her residency in Columbia, South Carolina at the University of South Carolina. The hospital affiliated with the university was called Palmetto Health. She also spent a significant amount of time caring for veterans at the Dorn Veteran’s Association. Another facet of her training included caring for the university’s athletes, the gamecocks. She is well versed in musculoskeletal care and injuries.

Medical School: Dr. Oglesby attended Ross University Medical School. She spent her first two years of training on a Caribbean island called Dominica (not Dominican Republic). Afterwards, she spent a brief amount of time in Miami, Florida before moving to New York City for her last two years of training. In New York City, she rotated through several different hospitals around the city each in different boroughs. During her surgery rotation, she met her future husband Dr. Philip Oubre who also works at Austin Family Medicine Associates. After graduating and passing all of her standardized tests with above average scores, she moved to South Carolina to complete her residency training.

Undergraduate Training: Dr. Oglesby spent most of her childhood years in El Paso, Texas where she attended Franklin High School. Afterwards, she studied at University of Texas in El Paso (UTEP) achieving her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Microbiology with a minor in Biochemistry.

She is inspired and driven by the challenge of medicine because it is a field that is constantly changing and requires a sharp mind to stay current and up to date. She also carries a sense of purpose towards her community, and she enjoys making a difference in people’s lives. She enjoys the hands-on experience of medicine since it allows her to work in a scientific field without having to work in a lab.

Family: Dr. Oglesby moved to Austin in October 2013, and she is married to Dr. Philip Oubre. The two physicians have a young daughter. They enjoy travelling and many outdoor activities. Dr. Oglesby is an excellent cook, and she enjoys learning new recipes in addition to making her favorite dishes. She is often found in the kitchen cooking or baking for friends and family. Dr. Oglesby has a knack and a love for painting; she recently began painting with Dr. Sharon Sneed.
